Korean cruise ships dock in RP

The Department of Tourism (DoT) welcomed more than 600 officers and crew on board two navy ships,  Roks Choi Young and Roks Dae Cheong of the Korean Cruise Training Task Group 2009.

The members were composed of midshipmen finalizing four years of theoretical studies at the Republic of Korea Naval Academy.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano says, “We are excited to welcome a first rate cruise ship composed of Korea’s best naval crew. Our pristine and majestic beaches, heritage sites and shopping haven, well complemented by a fantastic tropical weather and warm friendly people, shall serve as a great treat to its members.”

Adds Durano, “There is more to the Philippines to see and explore. We aim to have other world-class cruise vessels to attract to our shores.”

Headed by Commanding Officer RMDL Kim Dong-Kyun, the Korean Ocean Cruise Training Group 2009 is in the country to explore Manila, and surrounding destinations.

Tourism Planning Undersecretary Eduardo Jarque, Jr. says, “The Korean ship’s visit in the Philippines is a great opportunity to build goodwill between the two countries and to strengthen tourism ties with our strongest market.”

The Philippines has been praised by guests for having the warmest arrival reception from among the ship’s destinations.   “We make sure that they are treated to our one-of-a-kind Filipino hospitality.

Even before the ship has completely docked, we greet guests with spectacular cultural performances amidst the festive atmosphere of various stalls offering handicrafts, delicacies and other home-made products on the wharf, ” shared Jarque. The crew and member are set to visit nine different countries, including Brunei, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Italy, France, Egypt, Djibouti, and Singapore.
