The father of University of the Philippines team captain Arvie Braganza died Monday morning, hours after suffering a heart attack while watching his son play in a UAAP game against defending champion Ateneo

Agapito "Jong" Braganza was declared dead at 3:10 a.m. at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in Greenhills after he was rushed from The Arena in San Juan .

His remains lie at St. Vincent Seminary in Quezon City.

Braganza was at the stands watching the Maroons’ game against the Blue Eagles in the third quarter when he suddenly fainted. The younger Braganza immediately rushed to the stands to attend to his father.

The game was stopped for about 10 minutes as first aid was administered by emergency personnel and Ateneo team doctor Raul Canlas.

The elder Braganza was reportedly a diabetic and was recently released from the hospital after suffering an earlier heart attack.

Playing his final year with UP, Braganza was scheduled to tie the knot with his girlfriend on Tuesday. Despite the circumstances, the wedding will push through as requested by his father before he died.

UP will dedicate its final game of the season on Saturday against Adamson in honor of Braganza's dad. The Maroons, already out of Final Four contention, have a 3-10 record.
