Moderate to heavy rains with strong winds will continue to create a stormy weather that would prevail over most parts of the country in the next three days after the weather bureau spotted a low pressure area (LPA) in the South China Sea west of Northern Luzon.

In an update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said it has monitored the LPA at about 220 kilometers west of Dagupan City in Pangasinan, which will continue to bring moderate rains over Central and Southern Luzon.

PAGASA added that rains will become heavy over the western parts of Luzon including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas and Laguna.

The weather bureau also reminded residents in western sections in Luzon and those living near mountain slopes to take precautionary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides after monsoon rains have been expected to aggravate the weather.

“This disturbance will continue to bring moderate to heavy rains over Central and Southern Luzon particularly the western sections in the next two to three days which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” PAGASA said in a bulletin posted at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Issuing a gale warning early Tuesday morning, PAGASA explained that the LPA has intensified the surge of the southwest monsoon, which will bring monsoon rains while blowing strong winds that will affect the seaboards of Northern, Central, and Southern Luzon as well as Visayas and Mindanao.

The national meteorological agency said that the western seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon will experience winds with a maximum strength of 71 kph or similar to winds during a tropical storm that will make rough to very sea conditions with waves as high as 5.5 meters.

Likewise, the provinces located in the southern seaboard of Southern Luzon, the seaboards surrounding Visayas, as well as the northern and western seaboards of Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms and strong winds of 45 to 71 kph.
