The first ever Green Film Fest in the Philippines will be held in big SM Malls – the Mall of Asia, Megamall & North EDSA this September and will have students watching environment films for free. SM will make available its cinemas that can accommodate about 5,000 viewers daily.

Annie S. Garcia, president of SM Supermalls, said students will learn a lot about the environment by watching these films.

Spearheaded by the SM Environment Committee headed by Lisa Silerio, the Green Film Festival highlights environmental issues, like climate change, scarcity of water, environmental decay and the need for people and nations to work together for a sustainable future. There will be 8 films to be shown.

The Green Film Festival is an international festival staged yearly in different countries worldwide. It helps promote ideas of environmental protection and preservation for public awareness especially the youth.

Joining SM in the Green Film Fest are the embassies of France, Japan & the Netherlands which are contributing films to be shown. Since the objective is to educate the young about caring for the environment, the Environment Committee has coordinated with the Department of Education on the scheduling of batches of students who will watch the movies.

SM Supermalls through its SM Cares Program is committed to promote programs that will contribute to overall welfare and well-being of people. One is the protection of the environment by promoting social and ecological sustainability and forging relationships with organizations and individuals who have similar goals in protecting the environment.

The Green Film Festival will start on September 22 & 23 at the SM Mall of Asia then on September 28-29 at the SM Megamall and at the SM North EDSA on October 5-6, 2009.
