Bilin Ni Tita Cory

Not too long ago, I was inspired to write a song. It was a song of personal healing, of wishing peace and happiness, and of giving assurance of my constant presence, regardless of where i was, and whether I was alive or not. I wanted the song recorded for posterity so I requested a friend, Alvin Trono of Stages to help me. He willingly obliged and gave my material to musical arranger, Roy Del Valle who, I thought, did a marvelous job. His wife, Lissa did the vocals. Her powerful voice and soulful rendition captured the emotion behind the lyrics.

I ended up having a wonderfully recorded song in my CD player for me to relish and to share with family and friends. I was very happy.

A few days after the song was recorded, President Cory passed away. I was deeply affected and wanted to honor her somehow. That's when I thought of offering my song in her loving memory. Her death in fact brought even more life to the words because they were wishes she would have spoken not just for her family, but for all Filipinos. The urge became even more compelling when Kris Aquino spoke about how her Aunt Tessie, in a dream, was requested by her martyred father, Ninoy Aquino to give the dying President a bunch of stargazer flowers.

I didn't even know how to start the process since I had no personal access to the Aquino family. I called another friend who once worked for President Cory. Mike Reyes said he could do some kind of an MTV showing photos of the late President, then posted it in YouTube. Mike did an amazing job. Posting the song and sending by email proved to be an effective medium for the offering and the message. We received a lot of feedback about how the song was a fitting tribute to the late President.

Attached are the lyrics of the song and below them are the YouTube links for those who wish to hear it.

This is for you, Madame President Cory--for offering your life and your love to give us a taste of what true democracy is.
