Three unidentified alleged members of the Alvin Flores Robbery Group (AFRG) were killed in a brief gun battle with authorities along Manggahan flyover in Pasig City before dawn Thursday.

The bodies of the alleged robbers, which were left sprawled for at least an hour on the flyover, were reminders of early morning bloody encounter for residents and spectators who passed by the area on their way to work.

As members of the Eastern Police District - District Mobile Force (EPD-DMF) cordoned the area, Pasig traffic enforcers diverted the large bulk of vehicles coming from Marikina City to avert traffic build-up.

Chief Supt. Benjardi Mantele, EPD director, told reporters that the bloody encounter between the alleged members of AFRG and law enforcers took place at 3:00 am yesterday at Manggahan bridge, in Manggahan, Pasig City.

Prior to their brief gun battle, Mantele said a heavily tinted, black Toyota Vios, carrying the suspects refused to stop at a checkpoint along Amang Rodriguez Avenue located some 500 meters away from the bridge.

"It was a dead give away that they are up to no good. We have a heavily tinted, black Toyota Vios bearing no license plate at all. When our unit tried to flag them down during a checkpoint they just sped-off trying to evade our authorities," he said.

Mantele noted that the suspects hit speed of about 60-70 mph to evade several units of the EPD-DMF that were tailing behind.

The chase, however, ended with suspected robbers making a seemingly final, desperate stand on the bridge, some 500 meters away from the checkpoint they set up near a fastfood restaurant along Amang Rodriguez avenue, by engaging in a gun battle with pursuing cops, the EPD director said.

"Paghinto nung Vios sa may tulay, duon na nagkapalitan ng putok ang mga suspek at ang ating kapulisyahan na kung saan napatay nga natin ang mga pinaghihinalaan natin na miyembro ng isang robbery group. Buti na lamang, walang gaanong nasaktan sa ating mga pulis," he said.
