A go-getter, an achiever and result-oriented are just few of the things that dramatic actor Alfred Vargas has been known for since he stepped into showbiz. With whatever achievements he has reached as actor, he attributed them to the preparations he has undertaken before every project. He also knows that as he plans to enter politics, he needs to lay down more preparations for his next endeavor!

“Physically, I try to get lots of sleep. I also try to eat lots of good food and I exercise a lot. Emotionally, intellectually and psychologically, I read books. As an actor I really study my craft. And I keep myself abreast with current events,” explained Alfred.

With his hectic taping schedules for the high-rating “Darna” of GMA-7, Alfred is grateful that he also has the backing of Calayan Surgicenter as he was tapped recently by Drs. Manny and Pie Calayan to be one of their latest celebrity endorsers. The doctors would be in charge of his more tedious skin care regimen.

“Dr. Manny Calayan and I have been friends for years na rin because of the showbiz industry and finally now I got to sign under him. And with Nanay Lolit’s support natuwa naman ako kasi maganda talaga naman ang mga produkto niya dahil kuminis naman ako. Kuminis naman ang mukha ko dahil kay Dr. Manny Calayan.

Personally, I believe in him and effective ang services niya sa akin and makakabuti sa isang artistang katulad ko ang isang Dr. Manny Calayan,” he remarked proudly.

Dr. Manny Calayan on the other hand expressed that Alfred was a perfect choice as their latest endorser with his good track record in showbiz and untarnished wholesome image.

“How can we go wrong with Alfred Vargas? He embodies what our service stands for,” quipped Doc Manny.

More than endorsing all their services, Alfred will also have his own billboard along EDSA.

“I’m very happy with what’s happening to my career right now. Masaya maging part of the Calayan family. And the ratings of ‘Darna’ is doing very well thanks to Marian Rivera. Everything is doing well even my businesses and my ‘campaign’ is doing okay,” Alfred smiled.

In “Darna,” Alfred plays a reporter who’s on the trail of the Pinoy heroine Darna. In the process, he gets entangled in a love-triangle-scenario with Nadine Samonte and Marian Rivera as Narda.

“I’m happy with the role and I’m happy to be part of ‘Darna.’ And it being a number one show right now makes it even sweeter. Sobrang gusto ko talaga gumawa ng mga pambatang shows after ‘Enkantadia’ and ‘Dyesebel.’ And ‘Darna’ is a very exciting show, even if I don’t have any costumes, I just wear a vest and camera, tumitilapon pa rin ako and naka-harness. It’s hard but it’s also fun,” he described.

As a businessman, he is hands-on with his Makulay Farms wherein he always have short-term and long-term produce – ampalaya, lettuce, tomatoes, and mango trees. His barbeque place called Super Fred located in Greater Lagro Area in Quezon City, one of his entrepreneurial ventures has also been doing well in terms of sales since it opened.

So does he feel he could be as successful as well in politics as he plans to run as a councilor for the 2nd District of Quezon City?

“Ever since buo ang loob ko. When I decided to run, I’ve been clear na talagang diretso and seryoso ako. This is something na hindi pwedeng half-heartedly na gagawin mo. Ako since last year pa lang pinag-isipan ko na,” he pointed out.

He has so far, according to him, “gotten to know his neighbors” in his district in his own little ways. He is not yet in a full campign mode since he finds it to still be very early. He is also joining a major political party too to augment his campaign in the coming elections. His possible political opponent at the moment is Ara Mina who has also been vocal about running as a councilor in the 2nd District of Quezon City.

“Magkasama kami ni Ara Mina sa District 2 of Quezon City. Alam ko tatakbo siya and walang kaso naman yun kasi kaibigan ko siya saka hindi naman one on one kasi anim naman ang pipiliin so pwede kaming magsama sa isang balota… for me as long as I have the support of my parents and my family and even my management, Lolit, and my GMA Network family and my neighbors of District 2 buong-buo ang loob ko. There’s no turning back,” he declared.

He related of his interest in politics: “Ever since noong nasa school pa lang ako student leader na ako and active sa social awareness programs and events.”

As to his girlfriend Yasmine Espiritu, Alfred is confident that his plans of running in the coming election won’t affect their relationship.  “She is a very understanding lady and hindi ako natatakot doon. Nang magkahiwalay kami, nalampasan namin yun. Ngayon pa kayang magkasama kami dito sa Pilipinas.”

Asked about plans for a wedding soon, he replied, “I’m at a marrying age. But I want to make sure that I’m prepared in everything. Give me two to four more years from now. Well, we’ve talked about it and so far positive naman ang reaction niya. So far there’s nothing to fear. Nakilala ko na ang family niya and they are very warm… mga ganitong klaseng babae and sa edad natin talagang kailangang maging serious.”

Will he leave showbiz for politics? “I will never stop being an actor because it is my passion. I know there will be sacrifices for a certain time for showbiz but I will never give up acting dahil yan ang mas nagpapasaya sa atin and that is what keeps us going,” he ended.
