Aboitiz Power makes initial pitch on 'Cleanergy' electricity sales
The playing field for “clean energy solutions” is starting to break into the deregulated power industry, with Aboitiz Power Corporation (AP) already taking initial sales pitch for its “Cleanergy brand.”
AP president and chief executive officer Erramon Aboitiz said first sale they made was with Davao Light, though he qualified that the volume is not on a large scale.
“We signed a contract with Davao Light for about 400 million kilowatt-hours a year and we’re also selling some power to San Fernando Electric, though just small,” Aboitiz said.
He noted that wider opportunities for their “Cleanergy brand” opened up after the company’s acquisition of their 747-megawatt Tiwi and Makiling-Banahaw plants.
The realistic foray of the so-called clean energy solutions though it is expected when the government has already drawn up the parameters for the “green energy option” under the Renewable Energy Act.
Green energy, commonly categorized in the context of electricity generation, would refer to sources which are non-polluting and environmentally-friendly; primarily renewable energy sources, like wind, solar, hydro and geothermal.
The open access regime in the deregulated power industry is another milestone that will stir up introduction of innovative products and other related opportunities.
“When open access is established, AP will go to the market and actively offer Cleanergy as an option for customers who believe in the same vision as the company has for its brand of clean and renewable power,” the Aboitiz firm stressed.
The green energy option would entitle consumers to have green certificates or tags as a manifestation of their preference and support to RE or clean energy sources.
Patently, the Aboitiz group envisions appending its “Cleanergy brand” tag in the buildings or households of consumers going for the green option.
“Cleanergy is an energy solution that will give AP power consumers the option to reduce their carbon footprint and attain a more sustainable lifestyle,” the company explained.
The brand is aligned in the array of “better solutions” offered by the Aboitiz group as it keeps pace with more stringent competition in the deregulated power market.
