Acronis 10 solution fills in need for restoration speed, timelines

Open systems enterprise solutions provider Touch Solutions, Inc. is distributing solely Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 in fulfillment of its promise to deliver an affordable deduplication solution to local small businesses.
The company hosted recently the Philippine launch of the product, which is an upgrade from its highly successful predecessor, the Acronis True Image.
Chek San Tam, business development manager, Acronis Asia South, explained that the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, based on Acronis’ patented disk imaging and bare metal restore technologies, is designed to provide centralized management of all backup and recovery activities to help organizations meet challenging recovery time objectives (RTO).
By doing so, the software helps IT departments to make use of their storage and network infrastructure to save time and expense.
It eliminates backup copies of the same data from multiple computers, resulting in substantial storage and network bandwidth cost savings.
He explained that Acronis allows organizations of all sizes to simplify and automate backup and disaster recovery processes across Windows and Linux environments, including the ability to manage geographically distributed PCs, laptops, workstations, and servers, while scaling to protect thousands of machines.
Anson Uy, president, Touch Solutions, said “Given tight budgets and strong back up needs for data security, we found it necessary to make available in the Philippines backup and disaster recovery solutions that are reliable and cost-efficient at the same time.”
He added, “We are glad to be carrying the Acronis brand in the Philippines, given its reputation as the industry’s easiest-to-use backup and recovery application.” The Philippines is a market we need to drive in, said Tam.
DEDUPLICATION TREND UP
Data deduplication is an upcoming trend. For its part, Acronis positions itself as the first vendor to introduce an affordable solution that integrates data duplication in the back up process for the small- and mid-sized businesses.
Tam explained that unlike compression, which reduces the size of a single backup image or file, data duplication actually eliminates redundancy data across all workstations and servers scheduled to be backed.
For example, illustrated a product brochure, “When full weekly backup are performed with a data retention period of 12 months, the ‘traditional’ backups will contain significant amount of duplicated data.
However, when including data deduplication in the back up process, only the unique data are stored on an Acronis Storage Node.”
“Depending on type of data, the recurrence of data change, and the data retention policy, it is possible to achieve, using data deduplication, compression ratio of 1:20 or higher.”
