Valenzuela councilor hits MMDA on floods
A Valenzuela City councilor criticized Sunday the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for their failure to address the perennial flooding in some areas of the city.
Councilor Alvin "Isko" Feliciano, currently president of the city's Liga ng mga Barangay, said the two agencies have failed to submit their reports to the city council identifying anti-flood infrastructure projects they have constructed in the city.
Feliciano said both agencies, particularly the MMDA which is in-charge of preventing floods in Metro Manila, failed miserably in establishing that they had done any anti-flood project for Valenzuela City.
“Matagal na naming (Sangguniang Panglungsod) hinihingaan ng report ang MMDA pati na rin ang DPWH kung mayroon silang nagawang proyekto sa aming lungsod partikular na sa problema sa baha ngunit hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin sila nagsusumite sa amin ng kanilang ulat”, Feliciano said.
Feliciano also revealed that there are reports that the city government gives to the MMDA around R35 million of its Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share yearly.
The city councilor also expressed concern that until now, the city council's numerous requests to address the flood problem have fallen to MMDA's deaf ears.
