Cancer-stricken ex-OFW kills self
Suffering from lung cancer, a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) decided to take his own life before his illness takes him and allegedly shot himself inside his home in Quezon City early Sunday morning.
Investigator PO3 Jaime Jimena identified the victim as Balarmino Milanes, 63, a resident of No. 8 Taurus St., Cruzville Subdivision, Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City.
Jimena said that Milanes died on the spot after having shot himself in the right temple using his caliber .22 revolver.
Milanes’ wife, Rebecca, 60, told police that her husband was a former OFW who had worked in Saudi for many years but is now out of work.
Rebecca recounted that just last year her husband has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has been depressed ever since.
She said that she, her husband, and their 30-year-old daughter Teresa slept at 10 p.m. Saturday at a double-deck bed in their house.
However, Rebecca and their daughter were startled and awaken by a loud gunshot in the room at 5 a.m.
Both mother and daughter were shocked to find the dead body of Milanes who shot himself that morning.
