Knicks sign China's Sun Yue, report says
NEW YORK, September 14, 2009 (AFP) - The New York Knicks have picked up China's six-foot-nine point guard Sun Yue, signing the Olympian to a partly guaranteed contract, the New York Times reported.
Sun, who was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year, will participate in the Knicks training camp which begins later this month, the paper said, citing Sun's agent Charles Bonsignore.
The 23-year-old, known in his homeland as the Chinese Magic Johnson, won an NBA championship with the Lakers despite spending most of the season on the inactive roster, and was waived in July.
Sun signed a two-year contract with the Lakers in August 2008 after averaging 6.8 points and 2.5 assists a game for the Chinese national team in the Beijing Olympics.
