Iza Calzado tries comedy this time

One of the country’s serious dramatic actresses and pride of the Kapuso network Iza Calzado explores her versatility by going out of the box and taking on a comedy film assignment in GMA Films and APT Entertainment offering “Yaya and Angelina: Spoiled Brat The Movie” showing on Sept. 23.
Iza says she had a lot of fun doing this film. “It is a breather, so to speak, from the serious drama that people have been used to seeing me do. Akala nga ng mga tao sobrang serious ako because of the roles that I portray on film and my TV assignments. That’s why, doing this movie with Kuya Bitoy and Kuya Ogie is really a refreshing change,” she said during the press conference of the film that also stars Aiko Melendez, Jomari Yllana, Leo Martinez, Jojo Alejar, Roxanne Guinoo, Sheena Halili, Victor Aliwalas, John “Belly Flori” Feir and Mike “Pekto” Nacua.
Iza plays the role of a “funny” contravida to Yaya and Angelina. “Bad girl ako sa kanilang dalawa. It’s funny kahit na I threaten them here. And I’m a big fan of Yaya and Angelina. I watch ‘Bubble Gang’ kasi. That’s why when Mr. Tony Tuviera offered me the role, I said yes agad,” she said.
Iza has also started taping for her next afternoon soap under “Sineserye,” the television adaptation of the Maricel Soriano movie “Kaya Kong Abutin Ang Langit” and she can’t help but express nervousness over the new challenge she’s facing in this show.
“Pressured talaga ako and I believe it’s always a good thing to be on my toes for every project that I do. That means I am careful to give my best in every role,” she said, adding that the famous line from the movie, “ayoko ng marumi, ayoko ng masikip. Ayaw ko ng putik…” shall be retained in the TV version.
Like a real pro, Iza refused to talk about the controversy hounding her concerning Sunshine Dizon. “There’s really no problem there. It’s just that I want that issue to stop already kasi hindi maganda kaya I won’t talk about it anymore,” she said with a smile.
On her personal life, Iza admits that she has a new non-showbiz boyfriend but knowing how private he is, she says she would rather not expose him to the public as much as she can to not make him uncomfortable.
Apo celebrates 40 years
We started watching them when they celebrated their 20th anniversary way back in college.
Past forward to more than 20 years after, the Apo Hiking Society, the enduring trio of Buboy Garrovillo, Danny Javier and Jim Paredes, are unbelievably still at it.
This time, we got together with them for the press conference of their 40th anniversary concert billed “Apo: Kayang Kaya Pa” on Sept. 25 and 26 at the Skydome of SM North Edsa, produced by Viva Concerts.
Even they seem to have lost track of the years that they are celebrating. Buboy said, “40th anniversary na ba? Basta ang alam ko kasi may anniversary show. 40 na pala,” he said with a laugh remembering that they did another anniversary concert the year before.
Buboy promises a lot of reminiscing during the show. A mix of music and laughter, plus the usual political statement should be present, too. “We will be singing a lot of our old hits because that’s what the people want anyway,” he said.
Some of the Apo hits which will be expected on the two-night event are: “Yakap Sa Dilim,” “Prinsesa,” “When I Met You,” “Tuyo Nang Damdamin,” “Salawikain,” “Pumapatak Ang Ulan,” “Panalangin,” “Nakapagtataka,” “Mahirap Magmahal ng Syota ng Iba,” “Kaibigan,” “Kabilugan ng Buwan,” “Ewan,” “Batang Bata Ka Pa,” “Awit ng Barkada,” and “Di Na Natuto” among others.
