With only three months to go before the year ends, the Board of Investments is pursuing a one-on-one investment promotion campaigns in targeted countries and specific investors saying this is more effective during this crisis time in luring investors rather than conducting a general investment missions.

Fresh from his successful one on one investment promotion campaign in China, Trade and Industry Undersecretary and BoI managing head Elmer C. Hernandez is off again on an investment promotions campaign in Korea starting Sept. 22 to 25. Hernandez has a busy schedule for the rest of the year attending to various investment missions to several countries.

“I think one-on-one meetings with specific investors are more effective this time,” Hernandez told reporters.

In Korea, Hernandez would be attending two functions: one on one investment meetings with prospective investors sponsored by the ASEAN Korean Center and a conference on foreign direct investments in East Asia.

For his one-on-one meetings, Hernandez is going to meet with some of the big Korean companies interested on investing in power generation in the country using green energy sources.

Hernandez has refused to identify the Korean investors saying it may jeopardize the companies’ plans.

He, however, said that power has been one of the investor’s main businesses although it is also strong in the shipbuilding sector while two other firms are into biofuels and wind power energy generation. Another firm is also interested in mining and hydro power and liquefied natural gas power generation.

Hernandez is also meeting another Korean firm engaged in the production of xylose, an artificial sweetener from coco shells.

“This firm has finalized its decision to invest here after long years of courtship but it has yet to register with the BoI,” he said. This particular Korean company has chosen to locate in Davao. Hernandez will also hold discussion with an investor in hotel and resort facility and a semiconductor company.
