2 UAAP title games postponed

The UAAP Board on Monday decided to reschedule once again the finals of both the women's and juniors basketball divisions as schools try to recover from the devastating effects of Typhoon “Ondoy.”

Far Eastern University was to defend its women’s crown against Adamson at 2 p.m. while Ateneo the junior title against 2007 champion La Salle Greenhills at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

The games will be played on Saturday at the same venue.

They were originally scheduled last Saturday at The Arena but were postponed because of the floods that hit Metro Manila.

The league had earlier postponed the opening of the best-of-three title series between defending champion Ateneo and University of the East in the men's basketball division last Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. It will now be played on Thursday.

While basketball games were postponed, other championship events in the UAAP calendar were held over the weekend amidst the wrath of the storm.

La Salle and University of the Philippines captured the men's and women's swimming championships, respectively, held at the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Baños, Laguna while University of Santo Tomas claimed the girls' volleyball crown Saturday morning at the UE gym in Recto.

Enchong Dee, a part-time actor, collected seven gold medals in helping the Taft-based swimmers claim 240 points to bag his third consecutive Most Valuable Player award while the Lady Maroons collected 257 points.

On the other hand, UST won its third-straight title over UE, 25-14, 25-20, 25-23, behind Most Valuable Player and last year's juniors' Athlete of the Year Alyssa Valdez.
