Payatas seems to have a special place in Angel Locsin's heart.

Among all the places she could have helped in the aftermath of the “Ondoy” typhoon, the actress chose to be with the residents of Bagong Silangan, Payatas, in Quezon City in their hour of need.

"Yung mga taong nakatira dito, sila 'yung never talagang nagkaroon ng maginhawang buhay. Sila 'yung mga walang second floor (ang bahay)," she explained in “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Sept. 28.

Angel said she immediately sent SOS messages via SMS to her showbiz and non-showbiz friends as soon as she realized how much damage Typhoon Ondoy had wrought.

Mariole Alberto of Star Magic was one of the first to respond.

"Pinadala niya kaagad 'yung Star Magic artists niya. Nagulat ako, (ang sabi ko sa sarili ko) bakit may coaster? Nadu'n si Piolo (Pascual), si Maricar (Reyes)..."

Angel said she and some of her friends prepared the relief goods she distributed to the Payatas residents.

It was not the first time Angel had lifted the spirits of people in Payatas.

Last year, on April 20, the actress threw a bash for 600 indigent kids of Payatas as a birthday gift to herself.

According to reports, Angel came disguised, wearing only jogging pants, camisa de chino and slippers. It was said that she had no intention of revealing her identity except that she was found out.

In the same “Showbiz News Ngayon” episode, Star Magic talents Shaina Magdayao and Zanjoe Marudo were also seen distributing relief goods. 

Zanjoe and Shaina were deeply moved by what befell the “Ondoy” victims.

"(Pero) gano'n talaga 'yung nangyari. Wala tayong magagawa eh. Ang pinaka-ano lang, tumulong," said Zanjoe.

Shaina verbalized what many celebrities who have been helping out must be thinking.

"Pag dumarating ang ganitong panahon, nakakataba (ng puso) na naise-share yung blessings namin."
