Owners of motor vehicles and transport leaders appealed on Tuesday to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to extend the renewal of registration for vehicles with license plate number ending in 9 following the devastation brought by typhoon 'Ondoy.'

In their appeal addressed to Department of Transportation and Communications Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Arturo Lomibao, the motor vehicle owners whose plate numbers end in 9 will be hard pressed to renew their registration today due to lack of time. The deadline for renewal for motor vehicles with plate number ending in 9 is at the end of September.

Motorists said Lomibao can issue Memorandum Order (MO) allowing them an extension of renewal registration of all motor vehicles with plate number ending 9 especially public utility vehicles.

“Nakikisuyo po kami kay Assec. Lomibao, malaking halaga po yung 50% penalty kung hindi nagiisyu ng order si Lomibao at bigyan kami ng extension ng renewal of registration ng aming mga sasakyan,” the motorists said.

A transport leader estimated that around 800 units of jeepneys, taxi, buses and FX were affected by storm Ondoy.
