Take care of environment — Rosales
Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales said on Tuesday that the destruction brought about by storm “Ondoy’’ is reminder for the faithful to take care of the environment as he called on them to reach out to the victims.
“A destruction as large as this becomes a call to all of us to reach out to our brothers and sisters who are out there literally still wet and cold — homeless,” he said in a letter addressed to all priests, religious and laity in the archdiocese.
Rosales said there is a need for the faithful to reach out to the victims saying the tragedy brought about by the storm continues with devastating consequences in the lives, homes and neighborhood of many people around Metro Manila and most of Southern and Central Luzon . Donation in kind, he said, may be coursed through their social action arm, Caritas Manila.
Cardinal Rosales also announced that a special collection will be made at all Sunday Masses, including the anticipated Masses, in all parishes, chapels and malls for the victims of the Ondoy disaster on October 4.
Aside from reaching out to the victims, the cardinal also urged the faithful to care for the environment. “Please care for the safe and clean environment in your areas. There are lots of things that a tragedy like Ondoy is trying to teach and remind us of,” said Rosales.
Meanwhile, an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines National Secretariat for Social Action Justice & Peace (CBCP-NASSA) on Tuesday revealed receiving pledges for the victims.
