Manila Water Company (MWC) announced that it expects to have restored water supply in all parts of its east zone concession area as of Saturday night while offering longer payment terms as part of other measures meant to help areas affected by Tropical Storm Ondoy.

MWC said that as of October 3, 2009, from the 68,000 water service connections affected at the onset of Ondoy, only 6,150 connections remain waterless.

Water supply is expected to be restored to these remaining areas in Rodriguez, San Mateo, Marikina, and Cainta by late Saturday evening.

However, while all facilities of Manila Water are already online, it said the huge demand and simultaneous usage of water in the affected areas make it difficult for water pressure to build up and supply the elevated portions of the concession area.

A total of 78 barangays were severely affected coming from Taguig (18), Marikina (30), Pasig (16), and Rizal province (14).

"We will be offering payment terms spread over months so we will not disconnect them. These, however, are only for the barangays listed with MWSS,” MWC said.

Manila Water is currently desludging septic tanks of evacuation centers to prevent diseases brought about by poor sanitation.
