Linus Guardian Escandor II, the multi-awarded photojournalist of the Manila Bulletin, will join this month the Eddie Adams Workshop-Barnstorm XXII which will be held in Jeffersonville, New York.

Escandor has been involved in photography since his college years in San Beda, working as the school paper’s photographer.

He developed his enthusiasm and appreciation for photography through years of experience, believing that the medium broadens one's view of the world.

For him, experiencing other cultures, meeting people from other communities and other countries, and seeing the beauty, and sometimes ugliness, of the world through his camera lens are the true meaning of photography.

He already won various awards, including the prestigious Asia Media Awards 2008 (best in photojournalism and second place in “spot news category”), the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand 2007 Photojournalism Contest (first place and third place “Spot news category”), and the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand 2008 (first place in environment category).

He also won first place on single photos in the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines photo contest on climate change in 2008, and honorable mention in the Lente Awards 2008.

Escandor received the Photographer of the Year and Photo of the Year Awards in the US-Philippine Military exercises photo contest 2009/Balikatan.

He also received honorable mention for Outstanding Feature on Youth and Education in the Lasallian Scholarum Awards 2009.

In the Eddie Adams workshop which starts on October 9, Escandor will join other photojournalists from around the world in an intensive four-day workshop, along with selected students who were chosen among thousands of applicants worldwide. The 100 students are composed of 50 professional photographers/photojournalists and 50 students in photojournalism.

The workshop is aimed at creating a forum where an exchange of ideas, techniques, and philosophies can be shared between both established members and newcomers in the profession of picture journalism. The workshop is tuition-free, and the 100 students are chosen on the merit of their portfolios. 2009 will mark the 22st year of the Eddie Adams Workshop.

During the workshop, the students will have the opportunity to interact with the biggest and brightest minds in photography today.

Eddie Adams was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American photographer and photojournalist who had covered 13 wars. Along with the Pulitzer,

Adams also received over 500 awards, including the George Polk Award for News Photography in 1968, 1977 and 1978, and numerous awards from World Press Photo, NPPA, Sigma\ Delta Chi, Overseas Press Club, and many other organizations.

Adams' legacy is continued through Barnstorm: The Eddie Adams Workshop, the photography workshop he started in 1988.
