Calabarzon marks World Teacher’s Day

CAINTA, Rizal — The Department of Education (DepEd) in Southern Tagalog-A (Calabarzon) has scheduled the celebration of World Teacher’s Day Monday, it was learned here.

DepEd Calabarzon Regional Director Paraluman R. Giron said that DepEd Memorandum No. 378 issued recently by Education Secretary Jesli A. Lapus announced that the first Monday of October was declared as World Teacher’s Day by the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Giron said Lapus’ directive also explained that day will likewise serve as the culmination of the Teachers Month Campaign which was launched earlier by DepEd during the Metrobank 47th anniversary celebration which was highlighted by its awarding of the Metrobank Foundation’s Top 10 winners in the National Search for Outstanding Teachers of the Philippines.

Quoting Lapus, Giron said that World Teachers Day is “a day to celebrate teachers and the central role they play in guiding children, youths and adults through the life-long learning process.”

The observance of World Teacher’s Day will focus on the theme “My Teacher, My Hero,” Giron added.

According to Giron, the Teachers Month Campaign seeks to use the occasion to celebrate the unique role and service that teachers play in guiding families, strengthening of communities and building the nation.

Also to revitalize the image of teaching as a vocation by increasing public awareness on the value of teachers in the Philippine society and national development.

It also aims articulate the accessibility of a career in teaching by outlining available scholarship grants and school subsidy programs.

And to affirm current and retired Filipino teachers by coordinating within a chain of establishments to provide value added service or discounts for teachers.
