Starting Monday, Caloocan City's almost 100,000 seniors citizens will be honored and given tribute in a series of activities as part of the city's celebration of "Elderly Week."

Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri said the celebration of the Elderly Week is only a reaffirmation of the local government’s continuing support to improve the total well-being of the city’s “much respected and inspirational senior citizens.”

Echiverri said that for the past four years, the Elderly Week has allowed residents to become senior counterparts to top city government officials.

“As recognition of their valued contributions to society, elderly residents will assume in principle the functions and duties of city elective and appointed officials for one whole week,” the city mayor said.

The program which was initiated by the city mayor and the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs officially honors and encourages senior citizens to contribute to nation building and give valuable feedback.

Today, Echiverri and city administrator Russel Ramirez will lead the program marking the ceremonial assumption of local government posts by the senior citizens.

Earlier, the city mayor has unveiled the improved public assistance desk in front of the city hall to respond to the needs for frontline services to the senior citizens.

He also created special priority lanes for the elderly, established a senior citizens park and renovated both the OSCA offices in Poblacion and Caloocan North to include ample space for their social activities.
