‘Ondoy’ victims on Pacquiao’s mind

People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao used his training breaks last week to personally deliver relief goods to typhoon Ondoy victims. He also donated a million pesos for the cause. 

“Sayang ‘yung araw ko kung mag-tambay lang,” said he on “Showbiz Central.”

Pacquiao was quoted recently to be more revved up to win his match against Miguel Cotto this November so he could help use the cash prize to help more people.

As of this writing, the damage caused by ‘Ondoy’ has reached the P8-B mark.

Kris, Aljur prepare for next TV project

Kapuso love team Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal are now preparing for their next TV pair-up following “All My Life.”

Aljur will be resuming his workout in the gym as soon as his injured arm heals. Kris, on the other hand, will take up voice and dance lessons, also in line with the new soap.

The two were recently chosen as Bench apparel’s newest endorsers.

Gladys-Juday friendship strengthened by storm

Gladys Reyes revealed that her friend Judy Ann Santos was the first to respond to her text brigade during the height of the storm last Sept. 26.

“Sabi ni Juday, ‘Wag kang aalis diyan, pupunta kami diyan’,” said Gladys Reyes on “Showbiz Central.”

Glady’s husband Christopher Roxas was not in the country when typhoon “Ondoy” came. She broke down when he told her in a phone conversation, “Babe, sorry wala akong nagawa.” He is currently in Tokyo but trying to book a flight home.

Gladys said that a calm disposition in such situations helps keep children from being traumatized.

Annabelle Rama jilts faultfinders

Annabelle Rama rejected insinuations that Richard Gutierrez’s rescue of actress Cristine Reyes during the typhoon was mere gimmick for their forthcoming film, “Patient X.”

“Wala siyang (Richard) camera (when he went to Cristine) at hindi gumigimik ang anak ko. Kaya may camera dahil dumating si President Arroyo,” Annabelle said in an interview on “Showbiz Central,” Oct.4.

She also corrected reports that she reprimanded Richard for coming to the actress’ aid.

“Ang tinalakan ko si Rocky dahil nagpaiwan siya sa kotse,” she said.

‘Eat Bulaga’ hails ‘Birit Baby’ champ

Jude Matthew Servilla bagged the “Birit Baby Champion” title in the singing search held on “Eat Bulaga.” The 12-year-old boy sang a version of Wency Cornejo’s “Hanggang” which garnered 72,500 text votes.

Dancers’ romance still aflame

The five-year-old relationship of Sexbomb Girls’ Jopay Paguia and The Manoeuvres’ Joshua Zamora is stronger than ever, though they are not yet thinking of settling down.

“Wala pa ngang singsing eh,” joked Jopay on “Showbiz Central.”

“Nandoon na kami sa level na ‘yun (marriage), pero darating din kami ‘dun,” said Joshua.

A song for the ‘Ondoy’ victims

GMA-7 stars sang on Sunday variety show, “SOP,” the song titled “I Will Be,” which they dedicate to the typhoon victims. Its songwriters Ogie Alcasid and Janno Gibbs hope the song would “encourage people to keep on fighting.”

Even more celebs recall their ‘Ondoy’ experience

Young actress Camille Prats said she sent her husband Anthony Linsagan food and a love letter when he was stranded in the office during the tempest.

Tina Da Silva, the wife of former actor Dennis Da Silva who is incarcerated in Pasay City Jail due to illegal drugs, also worried for him. “Hanggang dibdib ang tubig kaya nag-alala talaga ako kasi hindi siya sanay sa ganoon,” said she.

The Kapuso talents who lost some of their properties to “Ondoy” include Vaness del Moral, Rhea Santos, Ariel (of Ariel and Maverick duo), Eunice “Charming” Lagusad, Jose Manalo, Buboy Villar, Sexbomb Rochelle, and Sexbomb Cynthia.

‘Cristine is perfect for the role’ - Vic Sotto

Comedian Vic Sotto has admitted to have been “hypnotized” the first time he saw Cristine Reyes on the set of their Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Ang Darling Kong Aswang.”

“Bagay kay Cristine yung role (kasi) maputi, tahimik (at) misteryosa siya,” Vic said.

Mikaela exits ‘Celebrity Duets’

“Celebrity Duets” contender Mikaela Bilbao has backed out of the singing tilt due to health reasons. She describes her stint on the show as “a life-changing experience.”

Boy Abunda shields ‘Sagip’ operation

As with his “The Buzz” co-host Kris Aquino, TV host-manager Boy Abunda defended Kapamilya stars and ABS-CBN management from rumors that their Sagip Kapamilya relief operation is merely for “leverage” of the network and their talents.

“We are community of entertainers, marami sa amin ay artista, kaya kung kasama man sila (sa relief operations), masama po ba?” he said.

He reiterated that the stars volunteered to join Sagip Kapamilya.

“What would you rather have: an entertainment industry that prohibits their talents to help because they might get sick or get allergies, or an industry that encourages these stars to help because we are children of God and citizens of this country?

“Wag na tayong maghintay ng trahedya para maging mabuti sa isa’t-isa."

‘Kambal’ lead stars on their ‘Ondoy’ lessons

“Kambal sa Uma” star Melissa Ricks realized that “a little help goes a long way” for victims of typhoon Ondoy.

“Walang maliit na tulong, sobrang saya na po nila (sa kahit anong tulong na maibigay namin),” said she who did outreach work in Malabon.

Melissa’s co-star, Shaina Magdayao, on the other hand, lauded the Filipino spirit.

“Iba ang bayanihan ng mga Pilipino,” said she who helped the residents of Barangay Bagong Silang in Payatas.

Kim Bum prefers to focus on acting

Korean superstar Kim Bum said he prefers acting over singing.

One of the “Boys over Flowers” stars just finished his new Korean soap, “Dream.” He was in the country recently to shoot a commercial with actress Maja Salvador.

Bum plans to take a break from work to visit his fans in other countries.

Life goes on for K Brosas, Jason Gainza

If there is anything comedian Jason Gainza learned from the recent calamity, it is, he said, “kailangang maghanda talaga.”

On the other hand, K Brosas summed up what lies ahead after the storm in three words: “Life goes on.”
