Kim Bum in Manila for TV ad, talks about Sandara, Maja
Kim Bum aka Yi Jeong of the popular Asianovela, “Boys Over Flowers,” revealed that should he meet “Pambansang Krung-Krung” Sandara Park, he will ask her about the Philippines.
Park, who was discovered in the Philippines and had starred in several Pinoy TV shows, commercials, and films before going back to her native Korea, is better known nowadays as "Dara" of Korean girl group, 2NE1.
“If ever he gets to meet her, he would ask her about the Philippines so he can know more about it,” said Bum through an interpreter when he appeared as a guest on “Ruffa & Ai” on Oct.5.
The “Boys Over Flowers” cutie added that he’ll have no qualms joining Philippine showbiz if opportunity knocks.
“I’ll be very honored (to do that) and I’ll be glad to come back not just for work, but to experience more of the Philippines,” said he.
The actor clarified rumors that romance brews between him and “Boys Over Flowers” leading lady, Koo Hye Sun.
“It’s just a rumor. Actually they are classmates. They go to school together. She’s more of a friend than a girlfriend,” said his interpreter.
At the press conference for his new RC Cola advertisement with ABS-CBN teen actress Maja Salvador, Bum revealed that he is still single.
So, how does he find Maja? And does he agree that she has a resemblance to Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones?
Yes, but beyond that, it is her (Maja’s) effervescence and composure that impressed me, said Bum.
He also praised Maja’s work ethics: “Her call time was at 5 a.m. and she was there for 24 hours but she never frowned. She kept smiling and kept everyone happy.”
The production team he worked with for the shoot of the commercial also won Bum’s admiration.
“(They) were so well-prepared, organized, and meticulous. And they even prepared Korean food for us! The directors were so concerned (for our welfare),” said he.
Bum also gave a message to his Filipino fans that were affected by typhoon Ondoy.
“I feel very sorry (with what happened). I hope you’ll have more strength and power during these times. I believe you can get over it.
“Please do not lose your hope and dreams. As an actor I will do my role because that’s what I do (best). I’m doing what I’m doing to make them smile and help them get back on track and God bless them all.”
According to a press release, RC Cola chose Bum and Maja for their personalities which perfectly represent the image of the brand.
Rizza Alfonso, Senior Marketing Services manager for RC Cola, said Maja is “young, fun-loving yet maintains her simplicity despite her booming career” as with Bum who is “very approachable even after becoming popular in the whole of Asia.”
“This is exactly what RC Cola is about - easy to love because the taste fits Filipinos’ taste buds at a price that’s very friendly to them. This is what made RC Cola the RC ng Bayan,” Alfonso added.
Bum and Salvador’s RC Cola commercial will soon air on TV.
Bum is set to grace the local boob tube anew as a martial arts fighter in the Koreanovela, “Dream.”
“I hope for ‘Dream’ to make Filipinos smile and to (help) get them back on track (after ‘Ondoy’),” he said.
Bum arrived in Manila last Oct. 1. ABS-CBN broke the news of his arrival via “Boys Over Flowers” official Twitter account which was the first time a Philippine TV network used a social networking site for such announcements.
