SAN FRANCISCO, October 6, 2009 (AFP) - International team captain Greg Norman insisted Tuesday that his recently announced split from his tennis legend wife Chris Evert wouldn't affect his focus on the Presidents Cup.

Norman, also recovering from surgery on his right shoulder, announced last week that he and Evert had separated after 15 months of marriage.

"I'm not going to talk about any of that personal life right now," Norman said. "The situation right now is we are here for the Presidents Cup and it's all about the Presidents Cup."

Norman is captain of an international side that includes golfers from all corners of the world except Europe taking on a US team captained by Fred Couples and featuring world number one Tiger Woods.

"My guys are in a great state of mind about being positive about getting out there and playing and come Thursday they are going to perform," Norman said.

"We haven't even talked about it (the breakup with Evert). We talked about my shoulder, absolutely. It's pretty hard to ignore that.

"But, at the end of the day, somebody's private life is their private life. They respect that."

Evert and Norman have been a popular couple at both golf and tennis events, seen together most recently just three weeks ago at the US Open tennis tournament in New York. Evert has also accompanied Norman at the British Open.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy said Norman's personal woes were irrelevant this week.

"He's a big boy and he can handle everything that's going on with his life," Ogilvy said of Norman. "His shoulder, he's very happy with the way it's going. He's doing it to prolong his golf career, really.

"As for the other stuff, it has not been discussed until I walked in this (media) tent, and I don't even think it's an issue."
