Runway: How to flounce
An exuberantly romantic take on RTW

Randy Ortiz’s collection for Plains and Prints
Ruffling is a convenient, immediate device to convey romance in a piece of clothing, and that is exactly how Randy Ortiz chose to transpose his exuberant, florid sense of glam dressing to his newly-launched RTW collection for the casualwear brand Plains and Prints.
He may have gotten a bit out of hand, for some people’s taste, as the ruffles wrapped the body in flouncy cocoons that telegraphed heft, more than anything flirtatious or feminine.
Still, the maximalist flank will find much to favor, Ortiz has a winsome way of piling on detail—multilayered, ruffled shoulders topped with a big sash, for one—that wearers probably wouldn’t mind the extra space.
