Ondoy’s damage to health facilities now at P670-million

Tropical storm Ondoy’s damage to the country’s health facilities has reached P670 million, the Department of Health (DoH) bared Saturday.

In its latest report, the DoH said that Ondoy greatly affected the Amang Rodriguez Hospital in Marikina City with an estimated damage worth of P300 million.

The DoH also placed the damage to facilities at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City at P75 million; Tondo Medical Center in Manila at P38 million; TRC Bicutan in Taguig City at P33 million; National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Taguig at P32 million; East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) in Quezon City at P25 million; and Rizal Medical Center in Manila at P23 million.

Other government health institutions that suffered from Ondoy’s wrath include the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital (P12 million), Dr. Jose Rodriguez (P1.1 million), Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (P5 million), Las Piñas General Hospital & Satellite Trauma Center (P1.2 million), National Children’s Hospital (P3.2 million), Quezon Memorial Medical Center (P7.9 million), San Lazaro Hospital (P17 million), and Valenzuela Medical Center (P4.2 million).

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said his department was able to debrief a total of 2, 060 individuals from three areas in Metro Manila badly affected by the September 26 flooding.

At least 1, 673 individuals were provided counseling in Malanday Elementary School in Marikina, 180 in Barangay Bagong Silang in Quezon City and 207 in Exodus Elementary School Floodway in Cainta, he said.
