Chiz shelves announcement for 2010 polls
Senator Francis Escudero said on Monday he has come to a decision regarding his plans for the May 2010 elections but chose to shelve his announcement in deference to the victims of the recent weather disturbances.
Escudero, who turned 40 last Saturday, was supposed to announce his decision for May 2010 national elections.
But Escudero said he and his party, the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), chose not to make any political announcement, adding that “this is not the right time” to talk of political ambitions as thousands of Filipinos are still suffering from the onslaught wrought by the typhoons.
“Nagdesisyon at nagpasya kami na ipagpaliban ang balakin ko sa election sa dahilang may kalamidad sa ating bansa, (We have decided to defer making any announcement regarding my plans on the coming elections because of the calamities the country is facing),” Escudero said in a press conference at the Senate press office.
“Hindi maganda sa pulitika habang marami ang nagugutom at walang matirahan, imbes na pag-usapan ang plano namin sa 2010 ang pag-uusapan namin bilang political party kung ano ang gagawin sa kalamidad (it is not good that in politics, while the rest are going hungry and have no homes, instead of discussing about our plans in 2010, as a political party we will talk about what we can do during this time of disaster),” he also said.
“Eyes on the ball muna tayo,” Escudero added, when pressed whether or not he will run for president in 2010.
