A security guard was arrested after he was caught stealing on closed circuit television camera (CCTV) from the furniture shop he was supposed to be guarding.

Superintendent Ferdinand Ampil, Station 7 commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), yesterday identified the suspect as guard Joel Malubay, 23, who was arrested by his men last Friday.

Ampil said that Malubay was caught stealing R800 cash from the shop and another CCTV camera caught him stealing P15,000 cash from the Dynasty Upholstery and Furniture Center on EDSA in Barangay E. Rodriguez last Thursday night.

Ampil said that the management of the shop installed the CCTV without the knowledge of the guards in the area after valuables and money started to get lost since February.

After checking the footage of the CCTV, the management discovered that Malubay rummaged through the shop by taking P800 cash and a CCTV camera.

The management reported the incident to Station 7. Malubay was arrested later.

Ampil said that Malubay who has been charged with qualified theft admitted the crime.
