After two consecutive successful movies, “Walang Kawala” and “Heavenly Touch,” DMV Entertainment’s Manny Valera and awarded director Joel Lamangan are once again bringing to the silver screen another thought-provoking and sensual film entitled “I Love Dreamguyz” under the screenplay of Eric Ramos.

The film, expected to raise eyebrows due to its controversial topic and same-sex love scenes, is about the struggles of Japan-bound male dancers. It is the story of the five dancers in the all-male dance group called Dreamguyz and how they chase their dreams and cope up with their failures. “I Love Dreamguyz” depicts “first timers” for the actors involved who are not known in tinsletown to do same-sex love scenes like Mhyco Aquino and Sherwin Ordoñez. And “I Love Dreamguyz” is newcomer JL (John Louie) Dizon’s baptism of fire in the realm of showbiz. It is also this young actor’s realization of a long time dream.

“It has always been my dream to join showbiz. I love to act and dance and that’s why I’ve always pursued that dream and I’m thankful that it came true,” shared JL in Filipino during the press conference held recently for “I Love Dreamguyz.”

The road towards a showbiz career has always been rough for the 20-year-old actor. He joined a number of star search TV contests and always ended with broken dreams. These contests included “Starstruck Season 3 and 4,” “Star Circle Quest,” “Pinoy Big Brother,” “Love Idol” and “TV Idol” among others.

Though frustrated with his bad luck from such contests, JL never lost hope. When his friend sent him a text message about an audition for a new movie about hip hop dancers, he gave his showbiz dream another shot.

“I auditioned because dancing is really my forte. And I gave my heart in acting and dancing and I guess they liked what I did that’s why they gave me the role. I was also surprised that the movie I auditioned for was a project of directors Joel Lamangan and Manny Valera,” said an excited JL.

Preparation for the “I Love Dreamguyz” project took a month of dancing and acting, said JL. Despite that, he admitted that he had a hard time since it was the first time he was acting. Even if he was a newbie actor, he was made aware of how strict their director was.

“It’s my first time to act and that’s already scary. Added pressure came being directed by an awarded filmmaker like Joel Lamangan. I was nervous and I know he was a ‘terror’ but at the same time I was thankful and happy to be directed by him,” he commented.

Via the trailer of “I Love Dreamguyz” that’s available for viewing at YouTube, JL Dizon didn’t have any qualms with his kissing scenes with actor Marco Morales. He actually gave the impression that he has acted before in a movie with a similar scene.

“Just like in the Robin Padilla commercial when he said, ‘Ito na ang break mo,’ this is my break and I felt I have to give my all. This is my dream and I won’t back-down just because of the love scenes required. So I gave it my all,” declared JL.

Regarding his controversial love scene, shower scene and kissing scenes with Marco Morales, he revealed that he told the latter to lead him in those scenes. And for him that worked well as they only had one take for their love scene.

“I just wanted to show the public that what my other actors can do I can also do,” he quipped. “Marco really helped me a lot because he is a veteran actor already. And he was a good teacher.”

And what was in his mind during his love scenes?

“I was just thinking that it was all work and nothing else. I didn’t give any other meaning to it rather than work,” described JL who also had a love scene with actress Nina Jose in the movie.

In “I Love Dreamguyz,” JL plays Jake, a dancer who dreams of trying his luck abroad. Being supported by his working girlfriend, part of the reasons he wanted to work abroad was to prove he could also make a living and help his family.

So does he relate well to his character?

“Yes, because I’m also a dancer and it has always entered my mind to find a job in Japan as a dancer. I also want to become rich and make my family proud,” replied JL whose experience in dancing included joining dance competition in fiestas with his high school dance group in Pampanga.

Showbiz came at the right time too for JL because he was an out-of-school-youth. From San Fernando, Pampanga, his mother opted to support his elder’s sister’s college education first than his. He was supposed to pursue a two-year college course but it wasn’t financially possible.

He stressed that his parents couldn’t be happier for him because they know how much he wanted to be an actor. According to him even if his film debut is a daring and sexy one, he said that they were very supportive and understanding as well as his girlfriend.

But is he ready for intrigues like being questioned about his sexuality?

“Yes I know it comes with showbiz. I have a lot of gay friends and I have no problems with that. And I don’t mind having more gay friends, but only as friends,” he smiled.

“I Love Dreamguyz” opens on Nov. 4 at Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Ermita, Remar Cinema, Cinerama Isetann Recto, Gotesco Grand Central, Roben and Ultra Vista Cebu.

As for JL Dizon, it won’t be surprising if he becomes the talk of the town soon as he is a young actor ON THE RISE!
