The road repair work of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is in full swing, Public Works Secretary Romeo Momo said on Wednesday.

Momo, who is in charge for Luzon operations, said that the reconstruction of the damaged portions of Kennon and Naguilian Roads, and Marcos Highway may take them one month to fully normalize the transports of goods to and from Baguio City.

“We are looking at a month’s time to normalize the roads. Our target now is to open second lanes within this week," he said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, motorists were passing through the two main roads but only limited to one lane open at some sections. On the other hand, Kennon Road was partially reopened by DPWH to light vehicles. Likewise, motorists have to take one road section since there has been a schedule imposed by concerned agencies on the flow of vehicles.

DPWH men cleared and blasted the debris on the roads to make them passable. Other work they have undertaken also include filling up of granular materials on roads with deep potholes, installing barricades and directional signs and distributing relief goods in affected areas.

“We would like to commend all the private contractors who had voluntarily deployed their heavy equipments to help in the ongoing cleaning operations in landslide affected areas,” Ebdane said, after contractors waived their P8,000-P10,000 rental fee for the equipment.
