More housing units for displaced families
In two months time, the government can make available at least 8,175 housing units more to families who were displaced by storms “Ondoy” and “Pepeng.”
This was disclosed by Vice President Manuel “Noli” De Castro who said the identified lots are located in Calauan, Laguna and in Rodriguez, Rizal.
According to De Castro, the lot in Laguna could generate 3,212 complete house and lot units while the one in Rizal could generate at least 2,613 more.
“The identified lots need only a maximum of two months to complete site development and house construction,” De Castro, who is also Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chair, pointed out.
De Castro also reported that the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has identified a site in Uringan, Pangasinan as a possible relocation site for at least 1000 families.
He said a total of 2,350 house and lot units located at the government’s relocation sites in Sta. Rosa, Biñan, and San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan are also ready for occupancy.
“As per our inventory, we also have a housing project in Tuba, Benguet where we can make available 223 units,” the Vice President said.
De Castro also said they have offered housing material loan from the National Housing Authority for informal settler families affected by the typhoons.
