BUTUAN CITY – The week-long “Buahanan Festival 2009” in Camiguin province started Sunday.

Various activities have been lined up to entertain thousands of guests coming from various places in the region and nearby areas, including those from Luzon and Visayas.

Camiguin Island’s favorite fruit will be yours for the taking as they celebrate their 30th Lanzones festival beginning Sunday up to next Sunday, October 25.

Lanzones of Camiguin is known for its perfection and reputed to be the sweetest fruit in the county and even recognized abroad.

“Everything for the week-long festivities is already in place,” said Camiguin Gov. Jurdin Jesus M. R. Romualdo.

All department heads of the provincial government, mayors, provincial and municipal councilors and the provincial tourism office had been preparing the week-long big activities for the past four months prior to the celebration.

Foreign and local tourists will take pleasure of the week-long event featuring lively and colorful extravaganza of cultural dances during the tableau and street dancing competition, said provincial tourism officer Candice Borromeo.

The opening of the week-long affair in the capital town of Mambajao in Camiguin province is the Agro-Industrial Technology Trade Fair (UGMAD), signaling the start of the 2009 Lanzones Festival where the One Town, One Product (OTOP) producers in the province will showcase all sorts of products and handicrafts.

The opening will also be highlighted with a Music and Kabog (bats) Showdown at the Camiguin Tourism Center in Mambajao town.

Other entertaining activities include the search for “Mutya sa Buahanan 2009,” the Festival Queen and Diwata Showdown, street parties, cultural shows and sports competition.
