Pupils forced to eat pieces of paper?
DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) – The Siliman University administration here said it is investigating reports that an elementary school teacher had ordered her pupils to eat small pieces of paper inside the classroom Thursday.
SU Director for Information and Publication Mark Raygan Garcia said the University was probing whether Grade 3 pupils of the Silliman University Elementary School were really ordered to eat torn pieces of paper by their teacher.
He said university policies provide for sanctions depending on the results of the probe.
According to the report, the teacher got irked because the pupils were so noisy when she entered the classroom.
Some of them did not obey her orders while others actually swallowed bits of paper, some parents complained.
According to one parent, it is dehumanizing to note children are told to eat paper because even animals don’t eat it.
The report, however, said the teacher did not personally put the paper into the mouth of the children although some of them obeyed her when she ordered them to eat paper.
