Youth back entrepreneur movement
DAVAO CITY – At least 4,000 students participated in the gathering of young entrepreneurs at the University of Mindanao (UM) gym here recently.
The activity dubbed “Young Entrepreneurs’ Summit (YES),” a movement for better values and was organized for the students in this city.
During the summit, the participants were able to listen to young entrepreneurs who shared their stories of success and challenges.
Movement president Guido Delgado challenged the youth into considering entrepreneurship as an alternative career choice.
“Although our socio-economic environment these days frustrates most of us, our youth need to know that they can actually be part of its transformation and help it become a stable and positive one through values-based entrepreneurship,” Delgado said.
Guest-entrepreneurs who shared their business stories were Stax Savellano, DXN networker; Jill Savellano of Zhi Ya Spa; Czarina Lim of Dimsum Diner, and Jigger Avanceña of Galeas Trading Corporation.
To further fortify its vision, the movement launched the “My Business Venture Awards,” an inter-school search for feasible business plans where the top three winners will be given P10,000 as seed capital for their businesses.
Moreover, it will set up P100,000 entrepreneurship fund for each participating school from which students may tap seed capital for businesses that they wish to establish.
The movement promotes values-based entrepreneurship to multi-sectoral groups, especially the youth, and goes to different schools around the country.
Here in the city, the movement collaborated with the University of Mindanao, University of the Philippines-Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao University, Philippine Women’s College, Rizal Memorial Colleges, and the University of Southeastern Philippines here.
