LTO waives fines for late renewals
There will be no penalty yet for the late renewal of driver’s license and registration of motor vehicles until November 15, according to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
LTO Chairman Arturo Lomibao said that in the interest of public service and in view of the devastation wrought by typhoon “Pepeng” in Luzon recently, all drivers’ licenses due for renewal from Oct. 8 to 30, 2009 shall be accepted until Nov. 15, 2009 without the corresponding penalty.
On the other hand, LTO spokesperson Mercedita E. Gutierrez said there would likewise be no penalty imposed for the late registration of motor vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 until November 15.
The LTO previously gave concerned parties until Oct. 15 to put their renewal papers in order.
The penalty waivers cover Luzon areas particularly in Region 1 (Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur); Region 2 (Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela); Region 3 (Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Bulacan
and Bataan); Region 4A (Rizal, Quezon, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite); Region4B (Marinduque, Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, and Lubang Island); Region 5 (Camarines Sur); Cordillera Autonomous Region (Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet); and the National Capital Region.
The penalty for late vehicle registration is 50 percent of the fee (for a one month late registration) while late renewal of driver’s license has a penalty of P50 for non-professional drivers’ license holders and P100 for professional drivers’ license holders.
