Adamson University gave the debuting College of St. Benilde a rude welcome as the Lady Falcons thumped the Lady Blazers, 25-23, 26-24, 25-16, on Wednesday in the sixth Shakey’s V League at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Falcons drew strength from Angela Benting and Paulina Soriano to put away the spirited stand of the Lady Blazers, who hung tough in the first two sets before running out of gas in the third when Adamson roared to a commanding 18-8 lead.

CSB saw action for the first time yesterday after engaging San Sebastian College in a fierce battle for NCAA crown where it finished runner-up last Sunday.

The Lady Blazers, who had eight blocks compared to Adamson’s six, had the chance to take the second set after forcing the first deuce of the game at 24-all on a Rosann Fajardo hit.

But that proved to be their last hurrah as Charmaine Moralde and Angelica Quinlog came through with back-to-back thunderouts hits to close out the second set in the game that took 1:19 minutes to finish.

The hard-hitting Benting and Soriano joined hands for 30 hits, including three blocks as the Lady Falcons, last year’s third placers, bounced back from a four-set defeat to Far Eastern University last Sunday.

The win hiked the Lady Falcons’ record to 3-2, good enough for solo fourth, while the defeat was a stern warning for the Lady Blazers that they have to raise their game several notches to be at par with the league’s big guns.

The victory was a good send off party for the Lady Falcons, who will be out for two weeks as they will compete in the National University Games in Iloilo City starting this weekend.

“Hindi pa rin kami nakakaporma nang husto since wala pa rin kaming gym. Hopefully, pagbalik namin next month sa V League, we will be better,” said Admason mentor Dulce Pante, referring to the school’s gym which is still undergoing renovation after it was partly damaged by a typhoon.

Gustillo added eight points while Quinlog had six as Adamson hit 39 out of 132 attacks, an offensive display far better than CSB’s 28 out of 129.

The Lady Falcons also scored 22 points off the errors of the Lady Blazers.
