850 families get cash aid

CEBU CITY – In line with the poverty alleviation project of the government spearheaded by the Region 7 office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD 7) through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), a fresh batch of 850 indigent families in this city received cash incentives Friday.

DSWD 7 Regional Director Evelyn Macapobre said that during its cash distribution, a total of P2.4 million was distributed to the 850 family beneficiaries in Barangay Mambaling, one of the ten most depressed villages in this city.

The department has allocated P250 million for the 3,000 identified 4Ps beneficiary in this city for a period of five years.

Other barangay beneficiaries of the 4Ps include Tejero, T. Padilla, Sawang Calero, Duljo-Fatima, Inayawan, Kalunasan, Sudlon I, Sudlon II, and Tagba-o.

The program offers cash grant for five years maximum to its beneficiaries, where each family receives P6,000 every year for their health and nutritional expenses, and another P3,000 for the educational expenses of each child for a maximum of three children per family.

Each household with three qualified children will receive a subsidy of P1,400 per month or P15,000 annually provided that they comply with the requirements.

Josephine Reqiso, one of the many beneficiaries of 4Ps in this city and a mother of five, shared that the program has really helped their family and she was able to send all her children to school.

Before, only two of her children can go to school due to poverty.
Reqisa has no work while his husband was laid off early this year due to the financial crisis.

Aside from sending her children to school, Reqiso was also able to acquire a second hand pedaled tricycle from the monthly cash incentive of the government.

The tricycle serves as the family’s new source of income and is operated by her husband.
