NBI arrests suspects in illegal telecom scheme
A group of post-paid telecom subscribers illegally using Globe Telecom facilities have been arrested
by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Paranaque City.
The illegal operation has resulted in the loss of millions of pesos in government taxes and Globe’s revenues, the NBI said.
NBI Director Nestor Mantaring identified the suspects as Gyoung Hwan Kim, of 205 Greenworld Plaza, President’s Avenue, BF Homes, Parañaque City and Young Soo Yang, of 204 Greenworld Plaza, President’s Ave. The two are both Koreans.
Also arrested was Adelan Adorel, also of Greenworld Plaza, President’s Avenue.
The operation was carried out after Globe Telecom asked assistance from the NBI regarding the operation of the group which resulted in the loss of P30 million revenues in three months.
Investigation conducted by NBI Intelligence Services under Deputy Director Ruel Lasala disclosed that Globe Telecom filed a complaint after its security division discovered that two of their legitimate post-paid subscribers, who turned out to be the two Koreans, were conducting an illegal activity.
The group was also found in possession of illegal communication facilities which deprives the company of revenues and the government of taxes.
“The Globe Telecom had already lost P30 million in revenue in three months’ time. Apart from this, the government incurred losses in taxes,” said Globe Security Director Ronald M. Uychutin.
Armed with search warrants issued by Judge Rolando How, of the Parañaque Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 257, the NBI operatives conducted an operation at the premises of Geeco Marketing
Ventures Inc. and Whizresearch Inc. located at Greenworld Plaza, BF Homes, Parañaque City on Wednesday.
The two Koreans and their alleged Filipina dummy Adelan Adorel were reportedly found in possession of a GSM apparatus and related equipment used in the illegal international simple resale (ISR) activity.
NBI reports said ISR converts international communication traffic to local domestic calls that bypasses the international getaway facility to Globe Telecom Inc.
Seized from the suspects were four Global System for Mobile or GSM apparatus were also seized.
The suspects were brought for inquest before the Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings on charges for Violation of Section 33 of RA 8729 otherwise known as Electronic Commerce Act and Violation of Article 318 (Other Deceits) of the Revised Penal Code, as amended.
