Resigned Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. called on his fellow Cabinet official Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro to follow his resignation from his post because of his presidential bid for the May 2010 elections.

Ebdane said that he quit his post as DPWH secretary to avoid any conflict of interest on his political plans and Teodoro should do the same. “Ang advice ko lang sa kanya (Teodoro) ay talasan lang niya ang pakiramdam niya.”

However, he clarified before the media that he had no issues against Teodoro and his rivals and he just wanted to implement his ideas on how to solve the country’s problems. "Ang sabi ko nga Gibo is a good friend of mine, I admire him.”

Ebdane was forced to quit his post Wednesday night after he was irked by a member of the administration party, the Lakas-Kampi-CMD, who asked him to resign. He was the third Cabinet official who tendered his resignation to concentrate on his political plans.

His replacement is Presidential Adviser for New Government Centers Victor Domingo, who will sit as acting DPWH head on Monday. He was also the former director of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and presidential assistant for Eastern Visayas.

Talking about his presidential bid, Ebdane singled out that his edge over other candidates is his organizations, which he refused to identify, and he is not a politician.

“They may be more popular but I know their profile, I know their capabilities, and I know myself," Ebdane said as to taking the challenge against Senators Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III, Manny Villar, Francis “Chiz” Escudero, and former President Erap Estrada.
