The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) is rushing the implementation of its ‘”Project Job Fit” program to identify the needed skills for industries expected to be key employment generators in the next 10 years, and address the perennial jobs and skills mismatch and youth unemployment, an official said on Saturday.

Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said he expects the program to be implemented by December.

“That is why the Jobs Fit road map is important as it would help the country meet the expected skills requirements of foreign capital,’’ said Roque.

"I already directed the DoLE regional offices to come up with the road map before the year ends to help prepare the country in taking advantage of the expected inflow of investments along the global economic rebound in 2010,'' he said.

Roque said that the Jobs Fit roadmap will guide students and other future jobseekers on what college course or skills training to take to immediately land a job upon graduation.

At the same time, Jobs Fit will serve as the basis of the education sector and other concerned stakeholders in the formation of appropriate curricula and career materials and the provision of training and educational scholarships aimed at meeting the skills requirement of industry.

The program will help fill up some of the 125, 000 local and overseas job vacancies posted in the PhilJobnet which remained unfilled due to lack of qualified applicants, said Roque.

From this month until November, he said the DoLE regional offices will be consulting with all stakeholders concerned including the academe to identify the skills needed by employment drivers.

He said the skills identification will be done in each region across the country.

Earlier, the DoLe office in Region 6 started consultations with various stakeholders, including government offices such as the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), TESDA and National Economic and Development Authority, among others.
