The union between broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez and Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas was celebrated Tuesday in Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City. The event is considered 'wedding of the year' in the political and journalistic world.

The venue was packed with fans, supporters and guests. Screens were set up to televise the ceremony to accommodate the people who cannot enter the church. The first forty rows were reserved for the couple's relatives.

The Filipiniana-themed ceremony started at 4 p.m. as fans and supporters cheered at the sidelines. The church was filled with politicians and celebrities alike. Senator Noynoy Aquino was seen in the front row as one of the principal sponsors of the wedding.

Korina entered the church grounds alongside a group of people holding a long sheet of white cloth to cover her from the public’s eye before entering the church gates. Escorted by her brother, she marched down the aisle in a wedding gown designed by Pepito Albert. The expecting Mar wiped his tears as he watched and waited for his bride at the altar. The union was blessed by celebrant, Fr. Tito Caluag, as the bride and groom exchanged vows. The couple walked out of the church as husband and wife.

Korina Sanchez and Mar Roxas announced that they were engaged last April 25, 2009 in an episode of Willie Revillame's noontime show, "Wowowee."

On June 13, 2009, Mar officially asked for Korina's hand in marriage through a Filipino tradition, the "pamamanhikan." Set in Korina's ancestral home in Parañaque, the program lasted for three hours which featured singing, dancing and a Tagalog love poem read by Mar to Korina. The event was accompanied by a home cooked dinner which was prepared by Korina herself.

It was announced that the wedding would take place in Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City at 3 p.m. on October 27, 2009, Tuesday. And will be followed by a reception at the Araneta Coliseum. However, due to the recent hit by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, it was reported that the couple decided to donate the expenses for the grand reception to the calamity stricken victims of the said typhoons. The celebration would, instead, finish with a private reception at Mar's home after the wedding rites.
