In surprise move, Oracle RP chief jumps ship to lead local HP office
In what could be one of the most surprising executive movements in the local IT industry to date, the country manager of Oracle Philippines is leaving his post to assume the top management post at the local subsidiary of tech giant HP.
Both companies have not yet commented on the transfer of Ryan Guadalquiver, managing director of Oracle Philippines, to HP Philippines, but sources have independently confirmed the veracity of the report.
David Tan, the outgoing country general manager of the local HP office, is going back to his home base in Singapore to take up a regional role in the company’s Asia Pacific and Japan division. He winds up his tour of duty at the Philippines after just more than two years since being named HP boss in July 2007.
Guadalquiver, the second Filipino and youngest managing director of Oracle Philippines, spent only a year at the software company after being appointed to his post in October last year.
He took the job after a long and low-key search process. Curiously, Tan was also picked to lead HP Philippines in a similar manner after its previous chief, Nilo Cruz, suddenly left the company.
Guadalquiver’s recruitment, however, is just among the many personnel movements currently heating up the local IT industry.
Luichi Robles, the former country manager of network equipment maker Cisco Philippines, has just taken the same job at the local subsidiary of software firm Symantec. His appointment became effective on October 15, his colleagues said.
Former Motorola Philippines marketing director of Mari Litonjua, meanwhile, has resurfaced as head of the broadband, data and landline business of mobile operator Globe Telecom.
Litonjua’s former boss at Motorola Philippines, Arlene Amarante, on the other hand, has assumed her new role as sales director of Yahoo Philippines. She was previously the country sales manager of MSN Philippines from 2007 to 2009.
Erick Olavides, one of the employees of Microsoft Philippines who availed of the company’s lucrative Voluntary Separation Program, spent just a few months as a channel sales manager for Oracle Philippines before resigning recently to join industry veteran and former Microsoft colleague Dittas Formoso at Raffles Solutions Philippines.
Joining them at Raffles Solutions, an IT consulting group, is Deo Co, also a long-time former employee of Microsoft Philippines.
