With thousands of people expected to flock to cemeteries and bus terminals, Quezon City authorities dispatched 400 personnel of the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) to beef up the 1,558-strong local police force to ensure the peaceful and orderly celebration of All Saints’ Day Sunday and All Souls’ Day Monday.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said the DPOS crew and the local police will be tasked to perform traffic enforcement duties and other similar tasks to minimize public inconvenienceat this time of the year. As determinant to criminality, Belmonte said the city government has created Oplan Kaluluwa wherein three groups -- namely Task Group Alpha, Task Group Bravo and Task Force Charlie -- will be tasked to perform various responsibilities to maintain law and order. Task Group Alpha is responsible for manning the cemeteries and columbaria. Task Group Bravo is assigned at the bus terminals, Light Railway Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) stations. Task Group Charlie will perform normal police functions and anti-crime duties. Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Senior Supt. Audie Arroyo said Oplan Kaluluwa will be enforced up to the end of the four-day holiday break on Monday Nov. 2 to ensure minimal public inconvenience. “As early as Oct. 30, QCPD personnel were deployed to monitor bus terminals on EDSA and Cubao, including Araneta Center to ensure the safe travel of passengers bound to the different
provinces,'' Arroyo said.
Quezon City hosts Southern Luzon-bound provincial buses like Tritran, JAC and JAM Liners and Northern Luzon-bound public transport like Baliwag Transit, Victory Liners, Partas, Dagupan Bus, Five Star and the Dominion Bus Lines.
