Games on Sunday
2 p.m. — UP vs St. Benilde
4 p.m. — Ateneo vs San Sebastian

San Sebastian and Ateneo-OraCare collide this Sunday in a duel of fancied teams even as St. Benilde shoots for at least a playoff for the sixth and last quarterfinal berth against winless University of the Philippines in the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 at The Arena in San Juan.

The SSC lasses and the Lady Eagles fashioned out straight-set wins over Lyceum and St. Benilde, respectively, last Friday to formalize their stints in the next round but they are expected to slug it out for a victory to improve their respective slates heading into the quarterfinal phase.

Gametime is at 4 p.m. with San Sebastian, the reigning five-time NCAA champion, looking for its fourth win in five games and Ateneo out to improve its 3-2 mark and build the needed momentum to the quarters of the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

Focus will also be on the 2 p.m. encounter with the Lady Blazers eyeing their second win against four losses and the Lady Maroons, winless in five games, hoping to keep their flickering quarterfinal hopes alive in the league backed by Mikasa, Accel, Mighty Bond and OraCare.

With all but one of the six quarter berths filled up, the last spot is a toss-up among St. Benilde, UP and Lyceum, which also totes a 0-5 mark. A win by St. Benilde will assure itself of a playoff and boot out UP from the race.

This Sunday’s matches can be viewed live on webcast on www.v-league.ph with NBN-4 to telecast the games on a delayed basis starting with the UP-St. Benilde contest on Monday at 2 p.m. The SSC-Ateneo match will be aired Tuesday, according to the organizing Sports Vision.

Joy Benito, Margarita Pepito, Melissa Mirasol and guest player Jinni Mondejar will spearhead San Sebastian’s bid against a talented Ateneo crew headed by top hitter Fille Cainglet, Angeline Gervacio, Denise Acevedo, and guest player Charo Soriano.

Giza Yumang and Kara Agero are expected to be back for St. Benilde after the duo skipped the team’s game against Ateneo to play in the Unigames, making the Lady Blazers the slight favorites over the Lady Maroons.
