Prepare your jackets and blankets as cool Christmas weather is officially here, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Dr. Nathaniel Cruz, PAGASA, deputy director and spokesperson, said cooler temperature is expected as the northeast monsoon, locally known as “Hanging Amihan,” set in last week, taking over from the southwest monsoon or locally known as “Hanging Habagat.”

“Hanging Amihan” ushers in cooler air temperatures which begin during the "ber" months, with its peak during the months of December and January, and sometimes extending into February.

On the other hand, “Hanging Habagat” is the prevailing wind from June to September—the rainy season in the Philippines.

The cool breeze is already felt in Metro Manila particularly at nighttime but cooler temperature is yet to come, Cruz said.

In Baguio City, a 12.4 degree Celcius temperature was recorded last week.
