Low pressure area spotted in N. Luzon
The state weather bureau Monday warned residents in low-lying areas and places near mountain slopes in Central and Northern Luzon against flashfloods and landslides as a rain-causing weather system moves towards the country.
In a weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said it spotted a low pressure area (LPA) in the Philippine Sea about 360 kilometers east of Northern Luzon as of 11 a.m. Monday.
"For the next two to three days, this weather system is expected to bring occasional rains over Central and Northern Luzon," PAGASA said.
The national meteorological agency noted that rains will become frequent in the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon which could trigger flashfloods and landslides.
It added that the eastern part of North and Central Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms.
At the same time, PAGASA said the northeast surface wind flow will bring strong winds that will affect the seaboards of North Luzon, which will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms.
Forecasters said the Hanging Amihan will bring winds with strengths of 55 to 71 kph, which will make rough to very rough seas with waves up to 5.5 meters high in the seaboards of North Luzon.
Winds will be light to moderate over the rest of Luzon while Visayas and Mindanao will have light to moderate sea conditions except during thunderstorms.
