TACLOBAN CITY — Concerned groups and stakeholders in Eastern Visayas are seeking for the extension of the registration of loose firearms, or the general firearms amnesty, which expired four days ago, October 31.

Gunowners in the region said the one-month amnesty period which lasted the whole month of October only, was too short considering that they, particularly those who have businesses, are busy with their pre-scheduled activities and seeking the necessary documents pertinent to their guns cannot be done in a short period of time.

A gun owner who refused to be identified said he and some members of his group are seeking for an extension of the general amnesty because of their inability to comply with the requirements demanded by the authorities who allotted only a short time for them to sort out their gun ownership papers.

He added that there are other gun owners he knows in the region with businesses in Manila who are asking that the general amnesty be extended because they were not able to avail of such grace period due to the recent calamities that struck the country.

He asked that the amnesty be extended up to December 31 of this year considering that there were papers or gun licenses damaged by the flood that submerged parts of Metro Manila under water.
