SEAG multi-medalist swimmer Miguel Molina and billiards icon Efren “Bata” Reyes are two of the athletes being considered by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) to carry the country’s flag during the traditional parade of athletes in the opening of the Laos SEA Games on December.

“Wala pang official na flag-bearer. It must be approved by the POC executive board,” RP chief of mission MarioTanchangco said at Tuesday’s PSA Forum in Shakey’s UN Avenue.

POC spokesperson Joey Romasanta also said they might also include veteran shooter Tac Padilla in the list of candidates.

“Of course we’re looking for outstanding athletes who are role models in their sports,” Romasanta said.

Aside from being a standout athlete, a flag-bearer must also be physically fit where he or she can endure the long parade during the opening ceremony while carrying the flag. — Kristel Satumbaga
