The University of Santo Tomas Tigresses moved a win shy of completing an elimination sweep by pummeling the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17, in the sixth Shakey’s V-League on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Taking a cue from their University Games title conquest over the weekend, the Tigresses scored almost at will to notch their sixth straight win in the tournament presented by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.

Angeli Tabaquero spearheaded the Tigresses’ onslaught with 11 hits in the league backed by Mikasa, Accel, OraCare, and Mighty Bond.

CSB dropped to 2-5, but still claimed the last and sixth quarterfinal berth – big thanks to Far Eastern University which beat Lyceum.

The Lady Tamaraws rallied from a 10-point deficit in the third set to boot out the winless Lyceum, 25-22, 25-21, 28-26.

Cherry Vivas led the Lady Tams with 18 points, including her last point – a service ace – that gave them their sixth win in seven outings.

The Tigresses quickly dispatched the Lady Blazers in the first set, 25-14, that set the tone for an easy win.

They were relentless in their offense they needed only 63 minutes to finish the match.

Rhea Dimaculangan, last conference’s Finals MVP, finished with nine points.
